Barclay Jones
Barclay G. Jones is Professor of Nuclear, Plasma and Radiological Engineering (NPRE) and of Mechanical Engineering (ME). He served as Head of NPRE from 1986 to 1999 and as Associate Chair of Nuclear Engineering from 1980 to 1985. He joined the University of Illinois faculty in 1963 and conducts research and teaches in the areas of reactor thermal-hydraulics and nuclear reactor safety. His research and interests bring him in contact and collaboration with national laboratories and industry. He received his BS in ME from the University of Saskatchewanand his MS and PhD degrees from UIUC. He has served several terms in the Senate, currently chairs the Senate Budget Committee, serves on the Senate Executive Committee and has served previously on the University Senates Conference and on the University Planning Council. He has also served on many campus, college and department committees including: two terms as chair of the College Policy and Development Committee (now Engineering Executive Committee) in Engineering, member of the Graduate College Executive Committee, chair of the Engineering Promotion and Tenure Committee twice, as well as many departmental committees. His recent focus in the Senate has been on budget and related issues.Richard Schacht
Richard Schacht is Professor of Philosophy and Jubilee Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He received his B.A. from Harvard in 1963 and his Ph.D. from Princeton in 1967, and has taught at UIUC since 1967. His campus service includes service as Chair of the Philosophy Department (1979-91, and 2001-present); Chair of the Council on Undergraduate Education (1987-91); member of Research Policy Committee (1988-2002); member of one Chancellor search committee and Chair of another; NCSA Advisory Board; University of Illinois Press Board; and Interim Dean of LAS (1994).
His Senate service includes General University Policy Committee (of which he is now Chair), the University Senates Conference (1995-2001), and Senate Council (of which he was Vice Chair 1996-97 and 1999-2000, and Chair, 1997-1999). He also was a member of the University-wide Tenure Principles Committee. Professional activities include chairing the American Philosophical Association's Committee on the Status and Future of the Profession and serving on its national Board of Officers; and serving as Executive Director, North American Nietzsche Society. He is the author and editor of eight books, including two published by the U of I Press, The Future of Alienation and Making Sense of Nietzsche.
