University of IllinoisBoard of Trustees MeetingSeptember 9, 2004
Board Chairman Lawrence Eppley called the meeting to order at 8:40 a.m. in the Public Affairs Center at the Springfield campus. He called the roll of trustees and introduced University Officers and Senate/USC Observers. A Resolution on behalf of the Board in Appreciation of the late State Senator Vincent Demuzio was accepted by his widow Senator Deanna Demuzio. There was one speaker during Public Comment session: Norma Jean Nieber, UIS, who advised the Trustees about the effect that “Banner Stress Syndrome” was having of the health and morale of University staff members.
Items on the agenda included a proposed “Policy to Preserve and Recognize the State’s American Indian Heritage.” In discussing the Policy, President Stukel suggested that it was not a resolution about the Chief, per se, but rather a point of departure to discuss what is an appropriate activity to recognize the state’s Native American heritage. It was proposed that the Trustees’ Distinguished Service Medallion be awarded to Thomas M. Siebel in recognition of his generous support of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Administrators were named for the Chicago, Springfield and Urbana-Champaign campuses.
the Operating Budget for FY2005 was proposed, and requests for new operating and capital appropriations for FY 2006 were presented.
