HE.05.03 Report on the IBHE Faculty Advisory Council Meeting, October 5, 2004.

The FAC met at Illinois Institute of Technology.  The members observed the Illinois Board of Higher Education meeting in the morning and met briefly after lunch to discuss a draft letter for individual members to send to local newspapers.  The draft focused upon the impact of budget cuts to higher education resulting in higher tuition costs leading to a  “privatization” of public higher education.  Several issues were raised including the length, number of elements included, and the utility of using the term “privatization” for the general public. Based on the discussion, the drafters will revise the letter for further review and a decision on forwarding it to individual FAC members to send.
