URBANA-CHAMPAIGN SENATE
Committee on Campus Operations
Prefiled Resolution
CO.05.01 Resolution Regarding the Restoration of the Lincoln Hall Building
Whereas, The Lincoln Hall Building was completed in 1922, expanded in 1929, and it has not undergone any systematic renovation in 76 years; and
Whereas, The Lincoln Hall Building is the second (behind Gregory Hall) most intensively used building (based upon weekly classroom use) on the UIUC Campus, and it is the third (behind Gregory Hall and the Armory) when laboratory hours are also considered; and
Whereas, The Lincoln Hall Building is an emblem of the physical, cultural, and pedagogical core of the UIUC Campus; and
Whereas, The Lincoln Hall Building floors and ceilings are crumbling in many places making the building unsafe for students and faculty who use it; and
Whereas, The Lincoln Hall Building has limited compliance with the American Disabilities Act (ADA); it has no central air-conditioning; and it has an antiquated fire-safety system; and
Whereas, The Lincoln Hall Building is an architectural landmark and historical monument to Abraham Lincoln, the beloved 16th President of the United States;
Be it resolved by the Senate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign that:
The Administration of the University of Illinois is urged to seek and commit financial resources to restore and improve the Lincoln Hall Building just as it seeks to improve the UIUC Campus with new construction.
