CO.04.01 Resolution Regarding UIUC Parking Policies

Whereas, Parking policies strongly affect the quality of life at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Campus; and

Whereas, The parking situation at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has worsened during the last two decades; and

Whereas, Parking lots have been eliminated for other uses; and

Whereas, Quick access to a vehicle is often needed by faculty and staff because of medical needs, young children, and other unforeseen circumstances; and

Whereas, Parking policies have economic ramifications for the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, such as potential reduction in faculty and staff productivity; and

Whereas, Parking policies have implications regarding personal safety during winter months and evening hours;

Be it resolved therefore by the Senate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign that

1. All parking policies shall be subject to faculty oversight and senate approval. This oversight includes overall parking budget, change in parking rates and parking violation penalties, and elimination of parking lots for other uses.

2. The Senate Committee on Campus Operations shall be charged to provide this oversight.
