CC.99.07

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS
URBANA-CHAMPAIGN SENATE
Committee on Committees
(Final -Action)
CC.99.07 Nomination for Senate Council Vice-Chair
Background
In the spring of 1998 the Committee on Committees presented a slate of three names for the positions of Chair and Vice Chair of Senate Council: Erica McClure, Richard Schacht, and Donald Uchtmann. Our procedures call for the person receiving the most votes to be Chair, and for the person receiving the next most votes to be Vice-Chair. In the ballot that followed, the three candidates finished in the following order: Schacht, McClure, Uchtmann. McClure subsequently submitted her resignation, since her teaching schedule during both semesters made it impossible for her to attend meetings of Senate and Senate Council. Thus the position of Vice Chair needs to be filled for the remainder of the 1998-1999 year.
Nomination
The Committee on Committees nominates Donald Uchtmann, who served as Vice- Chair last year (1997-1998) and who finished third in the balloting after McClure in the election last spring, as McClure's replacement, to fill out the remainder of the term. As one of the duly nominated candidates, and as the nominee receiving the next highest votes, this would be in keeping with the intent of the Senate's spring 1998 election.
