Joyce Tolliver (LAS)

Joyce Tolliver, Associate Professor of Spanish and Gender & Women's Studies, joined the faculty of the Dept. of Spanish, Italian and Portuguese in 1991.

She was elected Vice Chair of the Senate Executive Committee in 2008, and, in 2009, she was elected SEC Chair. She also serves on the University Senates Conference, the University Senates Conference Executive Committee, the George A. Miller Committee, the Center for Translation Studies Task Force, and numerous departmental committees. Her recent involvement in Senate committees includes the  Senate Committee on Equal Opportunity and Inclusion, the Sixth Senate Review Commission, and the Advisory Committee on the Academy for Capitalism and Limited Government.

Tolliver was SIP Director of Graduate Studies (2001-2004) and Director of Spanish Undergraduate Honors (1992-2001), and was awarded the Graduate College Outstanding Mentor Award in 2000.   In the Graduate College, she has served on the Executive Committee, the Programs Subcommittee, the Humanities and Creative Arts Area Committee of the Fellowship Board, the Fellowship Board Executive Committee, and the Outstanding Mentor Selection Committee.  In LAS, she has been a member of the Committees on Policy and Development, Humanities Scholarships and Honors, Advisory Committee for Individual Programs of Study, the Courses and Curricula Committee, Learning Communities Advisory Board, and the Teaching Academy Faculty Mentorship Program.   She has  also served as an elected member of the Modern Language Association Delegate Assembly and as Chair of the MLA Division on Linguistic Approaches to Literature.

Joyce Tolliver is a specialist in nineteenth- and twentieth-century literatures and cultures of Spain.  She has directed or co-directed seven dissertations and a dozen senior honors theses, and served on some forty dissertation committees at UIUC and other institutions in the US and abroad.

Matthew B. Wheeler (ACES)

Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has a doctoral degree specializing in physiology and biophysics, and has conducted more than 20 years of research on embryo and developmental biology of livestock.  His fields of professional interest are microfluidics; nanometer-scale integrated systems, biology of single mammalian embryos, embryonic and adult stem cells, remote sensing of embryo metabolism and embryonic health, microcalorimetry, MEMS actuators, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Dr. Wheeler has published 90 papers in peer- reviewed scientific papers, and more than 86 book chapters, proceedings and technical articles. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the International Embryo Transfer Society and was its President in 2005.

Dr. Wheeler's responsibilities at UIUC include teaching and research in biotechnology and reproductive biology in the Departments of Animal Sciences, Veterinary Clinical Medicine and Bioengineering. Dr. Wheeler was educated at the University of California-Davis, Colorado State University, the University of Virginia and the University of Wisconsin.  His awards include D.E. Becker Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching and Counseling, Animal Sciences, UIUC (1999); and University Scholar, 2002. Dr. Wheeler was Chair of the Academic Progress and Eligibility Committee of the Athletic Board and Chair of the Board from 1999-2002. He is one of the Faculty Athletic Representatives for the University to the Big Ten Conference and the NCAA. Dr. Wheeler has served on the UIUC Senate since 2003. He has served on the Senate Committees on Admissions, Conference on Conduct Governance, and General University Policy. Dr. Wheeler was re-elected to University Senates Conference in 2008. He has served as the USC representative to the Senate Executive Committee and was elected SEC Vice Chair in 2009.

Elizabeth Delacruz (FAA)

Elizabeth Delacruz received her Ph. D. in Art Education from Florida State University and joined the University of Illinois in 1988. She is Associate Professor of Art Education at the School of Art and Design and Editor of Visual Arts Research journal. Dr. Delacruz currently teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in art education methods, curriculum research and development, community arts, and educational technologies. She is consistently included on the list of teachers ranked as excellent by their students.  Dr. Delacruz was recipient of the University of Illinois Vice Chancellors' Teaching Scholars Award in 1993, a 2009 National Endowment for the Arts Grant, the 2009 College of Fine and Applied Arts Teaching Excellence Award, and the 2009 National Art Education Association Higher Education Division Art Educator of the Year Award. Her research interests center around contemporary art, aesthetic theory, cultural diversity, and new media literacies. In addition to her numerous books, scholarly essays, and lectures before national and international audiences, she has served as a consultant for the National Endowment for the Humanities, the J. P. Getty Foundation, and several art museums in the US. Dr. Delacruz was a member of the Faculty Senate from 1996-1998, and 2006-2008, has served on the Faculty Senate Committee of Academic Freedom and Tenure, and served as Chair of that committee in 1997-1998 and again from 2006-2008.

Bettina Francis (LAS)

Bettina Francis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Entomology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. In the Senate, she has served on the Committees on the Library, Continuing Education and Public Service, University Statutes and Senate Procedures, and the Educational Policy Committee. She was a member of the Library Allocations Steering Committee and has served on several campus-wide committees, including the General Education Board, the Institutional Biosafety Committee, and the AAUP Policy Committee, as well as on the LAS General Education Board. She is finishing terms on Faculty and Academic Staff Benefits, Educational Policy, and the Committee on Committees.

John Kindt (BUS)

John Kindt is a Professor of Business and Legal Policy in the Department of Business Administration in the College of Business. After receiving a B.A. in business from the College of William and Mary in 1972, Professor Kindt earned several graduate degrees in law and business, specifically, J.D., 1976, and MBA, 1977, from the University of Georgia; LL.M., 1978, and SJD, 1981, from the University of Virginia. During the 1970s, Professor Kindt was employed in several state and federal government positions. He also served as a senior fellow at the London School of Economics. Professor Kindt has been a member of the Senate for many years, and has served on the Senate Committees on Faculty and Academic Staff Benefits, Student Discipline, and the Conference on Conduct Governance. He has also chaired the Senate Committee on University Statutes and Senate Procedures and served on the Senate Executive Committee.

Ann Reisner (MEDIA)

Ann Reisner is an Associate Professor in the Department of Media and Cinema Studies in the College of Media.  Her research and teaching focus on mass media and social movements, particularly those concerned with environmental and agricultural issues.  She has served on various department, college and university committees, including current terms on the Urbana-Champaign Senate, the Senate Committee on University Statutes and Senate Procedures and the Committee on Committees.
